The Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) has held a series of meetings in Nagaland to explore enhanced trade cooperation and the possibility of a strategic partnership with the state government.
The delegation, led by FIEO Director General and CEO Dr Ajay Sahai, met several senior state officials, including Advisor for Industries and Commerce Hekani Jakhalu and Chief Secretary Sentiyanger Imchen, among others, during meetings held from April 23–24.
According to FIEO, the discussions focused on strengthening export-oriented collaboration and tapping Nagaland’s potential in sectors such as handloom, handicrafts, agro-based products, and organic produce.
In a statement shared by FIEO, the organization said the meetings were held with officials including Commissioner & Secretary to the Governor Thavaseelan K, Secretary of Industries & Commerce Kumar Ramnikant, Mission Director of Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission Moa Sangtam, and Additional Director of the Land Resources Department Hekato N, along with entrepreneurs and women self-help groups.
The delegation also engaged with Advisor Hekani Jakhalu, Chief Secretary Sentiyanger Imchen, and IDAN Chairman Abu Metha to deliberate on policy support and mechanisms to promote exports from the state.
FIEO noted that despite the North East contributing less than 1% to India’s total exports, Nagaland has emerged as a key performer, ranking third in the Export Preparedness Index (EPI) 2024 with a score of 46.42.
FIEO, which is the apex body representing government-recognized Export Promotion Councils, Commodity Boards, and Development Authorities in India, stated that Nagaland holds strong untapped export potential in handloom, handicrafts, agro-based and organic products.
