Kohima, 29 January (MTNews): The 5-day Film Appreciation Course organized by the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) in collaboration with the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) commenced at the DIPR Conference Hall, Kohima on Monday.

Addressing the inaugural program, Joint Director IPR, Asangla Imsong, stated that this course is the last of the series of training conducted as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. She thanked the FTII for offering the training free of cost to the scheduled tribes of Nagaland to inculcate the culture of films among the people.

Films are a powerful medium transcending all boundaries and the course is being conducted not only to appreciate movies but also to get an idea of what goes into the making of the movies and the craftsmanship behind the magic that is created on the silver screen, she said.

Course Director, Prof. Niyaz Mujawar is a National Film Award- Winning Filmmaker and a Cinema graduate of the prestigious FTII, Pune. He was the Director of the feature Film “Tajmal”, which was the winner of the 67th National Film Award, Best Film on National Integration, 2019, and winner of Best Film at Indic Film Festival 2021.

He said that movies are not just for entertainment but something that enlightens the people. He also stated that during the course of the workshop, various genres of films touching upon several themes- about how life could be treasured and how life could be transformed will be showcased.

The inaugural session was chaired by Avika Awomi, Information Assistant.
