The Fire and Emergency Services Mokokchung received a call at 10:14 pm on Saturday reporting that a power transformer in Sewak Gate had caught fire. Two fire trucks were promptly deployed to the scene after receiving the report.
The fire, however, was spread in a small section of the forested area near the power transformer in Mongsenbai ward, above the petrol pump, according to the fire department officials.
“There is nothing to worry about now. The fire has been successfully doused off,” a fire official told Mokokchung Times at 10: 34 pm, adding that the cause of fire was still unknown.
“We were lucky that we could reach the spot on time because there wasn’t any traffic,” an official said, adding that sometimes they often face inconvenience because some people refuse to make way for emergency services on the road. However, he also acknowledged that most people do understand the need to make ways for the emergency services.
Had the fire tenders not reach the spot on time, the power transformer would have been affected leading to huge public inconvenience for days.
