The Peren District Football Association (PDFA) marked a historic milestone with the launch of its first Women’s Football Cup on Thursday at the Turf Ground, Jalukie Town. The tournament, organised in collaboration with 9 Assam Rifles, Jalukie, comprises ten teams from across the district competing for top honours.
The opening match saw Broiler FC Mhainamtsi deliver a commanding performance, defeating Lamhai Dungki Youth Organisation (LDYO) 4–0. Goals were netted by Lusina (10), Ikieheina (2), and Sangbuamliu (11), with Langailiu (15) of LDYO inadvertently contributing to the scoreline. Sangbuamliu made a notable impact as a substitute, sealing the team’s dominant win.
In the second fixture, Jalukie Town Galactico (JTG) overcame Peren Town Youth Organisation (PTYO) with a 2–0 victory. Lunglung (6) opened the scoring, followed by a second goal from Wichengjailiu (7). Despite the loss, PTYO’s goalkeeper earned praise for her resilient performance, making several key saves under pressure.
The inaugural programme was graced by Joint Director of the Women’s Resources Department, Melumlung Zeliang. Proceedings were moderated by PDFA joint secretary, Ngautube R. Chamlak. The event began with an invocation by Associate Pastor of Elohim Rongmei Baptist Church, New Jalukie, Hugiak Gonmei, followed by a welcome address from PDFA president Raithu Newmai. Major Anupam Mishra of 9 Assam Rifles delivered the keynote address, while Thoidambo Nring presented a special musical performance. The players’ oath was administered by Organising Committee convenor Zierang Hegwang.
