The 75th anniversary celebration of the Mokokchung District Bharat Scouts and Guides (BS&G) was held on October 25, 2024, at the P. Shilu Ao Memorial Park in Mokokchung. The event was graced by Metsubo Jamir, Minister of Rural Development and SIRD, as the special guest. Mokokchung was the first district in Nagaland state to introduce BS&G.
In his address to the gathering, Minister Metsubo Jamir highlighted the significance of the Scouts and Guides movement, describing it as a lifelong commitment to core values such as loyalty, courage, kindness, and integrity. “As Scouts and Guides, your responsibilities are defined by your willingness to be role models in your communities through dedication and sacrifice, instilling these values in others for a collective impact on society,” he said.
He further acknowledged the complex challenges faced by today’s youth and emphasized how participation in the Scouts and Guides movement equips young individuals to become responsible citizens and leaders. “Your involvement in this movement will enable you to overcome the challenges of the modern world and create a brighter future for our society,” he added.
The program commenced with a welcome address by Thsuvisie Phoji, Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung and President of the Mokokchung District Bharat Scouts and Guides. Notable speakers at the event included V.K. Shah, State Commissioner (S) of Nagaland State Bharat Scouts and Guides, Sentinenla, District Education Officer and District Chief Commissioner (G) of Mokokchung, and former Scout Moajenba. Lipomar Lkr, District Organizing Commissioner (S), provided a historical account of the Mokokchung District BS&G.
Marking the occasion, the Ladybird School BS&G presented a special item, adding to the celebratory atmosphere. The program was chaired by Sentinenla, Assistant District Organizing Commissioner (G), with the invocation given by Rev. Ponen Longchar, Pastor of MTBA, and the benediction by Rev. Talijungla, Associate Pastor of UBA.
As part of the celebrations, Minister Jamir also released a Jubilee Souvenir in the presence of numerous dignitaries, including state and district BS&G officials, Scouts, and Guides from various schools across Mokokchung district.
The event commemorated 75 years of service and commitment to nurturing responsible citizens through the Scouts and Guides movement, a tradition that continues to thrive in the district.
