A first of its kind in the state, the Seri-Tourism Model Farming Centre in Khensa village, Mokokchung, was officially inaugurated on August 10, 2024 by Imkongmar Longkumer, Advisor, Sericulture & Minority Affairs, Government of Nagaland. This innovative project aims to merge tourism with sericulture, offering sustainable income opportunities for the local community while providing visitors with a unique insight into the region’s traditional practices and cultural heritage.

During his address, Advisor Imkongmar highlighted the significance of the day, describing it as a milestone in the collective efforts to successfully implement the Seri-Tourism project, one of the first of its kind in Nagaland. He expressed his satisfaction with the infrastructure at the center, noting that it has transformed his vision into reality.

The Advisor added that the Seri-Tourism Model Farming Centre should serve not only as a recreational facility but also as an educational hub where visitors can learn about the various aspects of sericulture and its potential for sustainable income generation due to its market demand. He also pointed out that the success of this center could pave the way for more such initiatives in the future. He also thanked the villagers of Khensa and neighboring communities for their support and expressed hope that the project would have a positive impact on society.

Sanjay Rai, the Director of Sericulture, delivered the keynote address, informing the audience that the project was funded under the NEC 2023-2024 schemes. He mentioned that, in addition to attracting tourists, the center would generate employment through various sericulture activities offered at the Model Farming Centre.

I Alemmeren Longchar, Chairman of Khensa Village Council, expressed his appreciation for the project, describing it as a dream realized beyond imagination. He also issued a caution, stating that any violations of the rules and regulations established by the council would be dealt with strictly.

Earlier in the program, Advisor Imkongmar unveiled the inaugural plaque of the center and conducted an inspection of the premises. The event was chaired by Alemkumzuk, Deputy Director of the Sericulture Department, and featured invocation and benediction prayers by Puryapang, Pastor of Ongpangkong Compound Baptist Church, and Mayanger Walling, Pastor of Khensa Baptist Church. The vote of thanks was delivered by Imonger, District Sericulture Officer, Mokokchung.
