First Rain Foundation, in collaboration with MITA and The Ant, organized the first mental health camp at Sangtemla Multipurpose Hall on Saturday, aiming to make mental health care more accessible in the community.

Organizers described the initiative as “a significant step toward improving access to mental health support.” The camp will now be held on the second Saturday of every month, with the next session scheduled for September 13, 2025, at the same venue from 9:00 AM.
A total of 21 individuals attended the inaugural camp. Consultations were provided by two psychiatrists, one medical doctor, and one counsellor, supported by 12 volunteers. Of those seen, two individuals were not prescribed medication and were refunded their consultation fees.
Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive. One attendee shared, “We felt at home and safe. The hospitality offered by the team was truly commendable.” Others said they are already looking forward to the next camp.
The Sangtemla Ward Council provided the hall free of charge, which organizers said played a key role in making the event possible. They expressed hope that the gesture would encourage more local bodies and individuals to support similar initiatives.
The day began with a short prayer led by Rev Ponen Longchar, Senior Pastor of MTBA, followed by tea with members of First Rain Foundation, The Ant, and Sangtemla Ward Council.
According to First Rain Foundation, the camp’s goal is to create a safe environment where individuals can seek help without fear or stigma, while promoting openness and community support.
