The 35+ Mokokchung Football League Season 5 concluded on Thursday at Imkongmeren Sports Complex with Revenant FC emerging as champions for a record fifth consecutive time. The closing ceremony was graced by N Akok Longkumer, President of the Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA), as the special guest.
Chubasoba, one of the players, shared his experience in the tournament, expressing the fun and camaraderie enjoyed by the participants. A special musical performance by Nungsanglila followed, befitting of the celebrations.
In his speech, N Akok Longkumer stressed the importance of such tournaments for promoting health and well-being. He noted that the veterans in the league could serve as role models, inspiring younger generations to participate in sports and lead healthier lifestyles.
The tournament concluded with Sungtikumba delivering the vote of thanks, and the crowning of champions was conducted by the convenor.
Individual awards were also given, with Chuba Nokdir of Wasang FC named Best Goalkeeper, Sentiyanger of Revenant FC recognized as Best Defender, and Imliyapang of Terokroker FC earning the Highest Goal Scorer title with 19 goals in 20 matches. Tiayanger of Revenant FC was named Player of the Season, while Senso Sporting Club received the Fair Play Award.
Revenant FC claimed the championship with 48 points, followed by Wasang FC as runners-up with 39 points. Revenant FC has now won the tournament five times in a row. A total of six teams participated, with the winners receiving a prize of Rs15,000, and the runners-up taking home Rs 10,000.
New Ecclesia (28 points), Terokroker FC (27 points), Trebuchet FC (24 points), and Senso FC (7 points) finished third, fourth, and fifth respectively.
In the final matches of the season played today, New Ecclesia defeated Terokroker FC 5-0 in the first match, while eventual champions Revenant FC edged past Wasang FC with a 2-1 victory. Bottom-placed Senso FC ended a poor season on a positive note with a goalless draw against Trebuchet FC.
