Torrential rainfall since the evening of July 5 has triggered severe flash floods across Dimapur Urban and adjoining rural areas, submerging multiple low-lying colonies and causing widespread damage. The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Dimapur, in its preliminary report, confirmed that several homes were inundated and 844 residents were rescued and relocated to relief camps following continuous downpour and drain overflows.

Among the worst-affected areas were Vihume, Netaji Colony, Kuda Village, Purana Bazaar B, Walford (Central), Namgalong, and Kalibari (Ward-17). Rising water levels, blocked drainage systems, and poor infrastructure led to widespread waterlogging, displacing families and forcing many to seek shelter.
In an emergency meeting convened on July 7, the DDMA resolved to submit a comprehensive flood report to the state government while also conducting visits to relief camps.
The authority has called for a permanent solution to the recurring flood issue.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) launched full-scale rescue operations from 5:50 AM on July 6, deploying 25 personnel, including trained divers, and a rescue boat. Their efforts focused on the most affected localities, including Mount View Colony, Purana Bazaar B, Kuda Village, Namgalong, Vihume, Aoyimti, Police Colony, Ekhyo Yan, Walford (Central), Netaji Colony, and Phom Colony.
By the morning of July 7, authorities reported that 844 people had been safely evacuated, including children, the elderly, sick individuals, people with disabilities, and infants. Three relief camps were set up at BSNL quarters (Walford), S.M. Colony, and Namgalong Colony to provide temporary shelter and aid to the displaced.
Despite the success of the rescue operations, the situation took a tragic turn as three lives were lost due to electrocution — two in Kuda Village and one in Police Colony. The incidents have raised serious concerns about the safety of electrical infrastructure during flood conditions.
Authorities stated that monitoring will continue round the clock, and that efforts are underway to provide essential services to flood-hit families. The DDMA and District Administration have urged residents to remain alert and report emergencies promptly.
As relief and recovery continue, the disaster has once again highlighted Dimapur’s vulnerability to monsoon-related flooding and the urgent need for long-term urban flood mitigation strategies.
