Mokokchung, 3 February (MTNews): In a strong denouncement, the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-YA) has condemned the recent decision by the Indian government to erect a separation fence along the imposed boundary in Naga territory. Describing it as yet “another attempt to justify and legalize her illegal occupation of the Naga country” the NSCN-YA asserted that this move undermines the Naga people’s struggle for sovereignty.

“India’s petty politics cannot deceive the International community of its illegal occupation and atrocities in the Naga country and the whole Wesea region,” it added.

The organization stated that “despite Indian Home Minister Amit Shah’s feverish imagination, Nagas on both sides of the imposed border will not simply stand by and allow this separation fence to violate our rights and threaten our future and ways of lives”.

“This fence will not serve any purpose but will only invite provocation and further complicate the Naga issue,” it maintained.

It further stated that the NSCN/GPRN, have in the past, condemned the hostile separation policy of India to divide Nagas based on the present border. “As much as we opposed India and Myanmar’s illegal occupation of our country we also opposed all of their discriminatory laws and divisive policies,” it continued.

Arguing that Nagas have never asked for a Free Movement Regime (FMR) in the first place, the organization stated that laws which can be easily implemented or scrapped at will are “meaningless for Nagas”.

“Nagas have been free since ancient times and we have not bowed down to anybody nor sought permission from anyone to travel within our country. And having the sovereign right, our people will not allow anyone to dictate their ability to commute freely,” it maintained.

They also pointed out that today, their free movement has been restricted to the core by hundreds of Indian checkpoints and obstacles spread throughout the Naga country. “This level of repression has cause deep trauma and insecurity among our people for the last many decades. Every action taken by India crosses the redline and any of this action will not go unchallenged,” it added.

It expressed gratitude for the unified voice of Nagas across the region who have stood in solidarity against the “illegal policy” adding that they are encouraged and motivated by the strong unity in condemning the symbol of occupation.
