The second day of the Naga Baptist Leaders Meet was marked by an atmosphere of spiritual fervor and cultural splendor, featuring soul-stirring music, powerful sermons, and vibrant performances.
A highlight of the event was the NBCC Choir, represented by the Nagaland Conservatory of Music, whose melodious and heartfelt renditions deeply moved the audience. The gathering was further enriched by a greeting message from Mr. Lasai, Assistant General Secretary of the Naga Baptist Convention, Myanmar, who extended his warm wishes and encouragement to the attendees. He underscored the significance of the theme, “One Faith, One Lord, One Baptism,” highlighting it as a reminder of the unity shared in Christ. He stated that the theme reflects a collective hope for a unified future built on faith, solidarity, and purpose. He urged the Naga brethren to earnestly pray for the ongoing political crisis in Myanmar, which has caused immense suffering among the Nagas living there. Many, he said, have fallen victim to the conflict, with numerous lives lost and many forced to flee the country.
During the morning service, renowned speaker and Christian apologist, Dr. Kethoser Kevichusa, Director of Baptist World Mission (BMS), delivered a powerful and inspiring sermon. He emphasized that God Himself is the ultimate missionary, carrying out the primary work of mission. Dr. Kevichusa highlighted that Jesus Christ’s coming, His sacrifice, and His saving of sinners constitute the core of this divine mission. As believers, he explained, we are merely continuing the mission that God Himself has initiated. He underscored the critical importance of the five marks of mission – evangelism, discipleship, compassion, justice, and stewardship of creation – stating that neglecting any one of these renders the mission incomplete. He challenged the common perception of disobedience, noting that while many believers recognize wrongdoing as disobedience to God, they often overlook their failure to actively participate in His mission as a serious lapse in obedience. “Mission is not an option; it is a command to be obeyed,” Kevichusa asserted, urging the Christian community to embrace their divine calling with urgency and commitment. He emphasized the necessity of collaboration, calling on believers to work together in fulfilling God’s mission.
During the afternoon cultural program, a vibrant showcase of cultural performances captivated the audience. Enthralling presentations were delivered by various cultural groups, including the Khiamniungan, Konyak (Myanmar), Poumai, Sumi, and Tarao communities, along with the Host Association – Phalee (TBCA) and Jessami (TBCA). The event was further dignified by the presence of esteemed guests, including Minister Shri. Khashim Vashum (Minister of Transport), and three MLAs, Shri Losii Dikho, Shri Leishiyo Keishing, and Shri J Kumo Sha, who graced the occasion with their presence, adding to its significance. In his speech, MLA Shri Losii Dikho emphasized that the primary responsibility of legislators is to foster development and peace. However, he acknowledged that achieving these goals is impossible without the guidance and support of Christ. He highlighted the profound impact of the church on society, both within the region and beyond. Urging the church leaders to continue their prayers, he assured them that MLAs stand in solidarity with the Church and remain committed to supporting its mission.
During the evening service, Rev. Talijungla Longkumer, APW, Ungma Baptist Church, Mokokchung, delivered an inspiring sermon on the theme “Oneness in the Body of Christ”. She underscored that true unity within the body of Christ cannot be achieved through fear or by merely playing it safe but must be rooted in the active practice of truth. Rev. Longkumer stressed that believers must embody and live out the truth, following the example of Jesus Christ. She further highlighted that both tolerance and intolerance should be guided by the truth of Christ, as only then can genuine oneness be realized within the Christian community.
