The Federation of Nagaland State Engineering Service Association (FONSESA) celebrated Engineers’ Day 2025 under the theme “Deep Tech & Engineering Excellence: Driving India’s Techade” at NPWD Conference Hall, Kohima on 15th September 2025.

Er PI Imna Ao, Engineer-in-Chief, NPWD, in his keynote address, highlighted that Engineers’ Day is observed annually in India on 15th September to mark the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, a visionary engineer, statesman, nation builder, and pioneer of modern engineering, remembered for his immense contribution to India’s development.
He said engineers, by their very nature, are problem solvers, turning challenges into opportunities and ideas into reality. He reasoned that as every aspect of daily life bears the imprint of engineering, today’s engineering is not just about structures, machines, and circuits, but also about innovation with responsibility.
Er Imna Ao stated that as the world stands at a critical juncture—facing challenges such as climate change, resource inflation, urbanization, and digital security—engineers hold the key to developing sustainable technologies, renewable energy solutions, smart infrastructures, and digital resilience. He emphasized that an engineer’s role must expand beyond technical expertise to include social responsibility, environmental stewardship, and ethical leadership.
He also urged engineers to remember that engineering is ultimately service to humanity, and that tools and technologies must advance progress while upholding values of inclusiveness, sustainability, well-being, discipline, and excellence. He reminded them that excellence in engineering is not only about skill, but also sincerity, responsibility, innovation, thoughtful design, and vision, ensuring that engineering serves both present demands and future growth.
Er Shiludi Longkumer, Secretary General, FONSESA (APEN), in his technical presentation, highlighted “Smart Prepaid Metering” under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). He shared the objectives of RDSS, explained the system architecture of Smart Prepaid Meters, and pointed out their advantages.
During the program, Er Fineson Pojar, President, FONSESA, delivered the welcome address, while Er Ekon Murry, PRO, FONSESA, pronounced the vote of thanks. The session was chaired by Er Seyievizo Tsukru, Vice President, FONSESA. A special song was also presented by Er Lumchungla T Sangtam, AOE APWD.
