The Food Safety Administration, Zunheboto under Mokokchung Zone conducted an awareness camp on safe and fortified food, repurposing used cooking oil, good manufacturing practices, and sensitisation of food business operators at the CMO Conference Hall on March 30.

Participants included wholesalers, retailers, restaurant and hotel owners, manufacturers, Anganwadi staff, and members of self-help groups.

Addressing the gathering, Samuel Zehol, Designated Officer, Food Safety Administration, highlighted the responsibilities of food business operators regarding FSSAI registration and licensing. He stressed compliance with hygiene and sanitation standards and the need for medical fitness certificates for employees in food manufacturing units.

He emphasised the role of fortified food in improving public health and described it as a safe and cost-effective way to enhance nutrition.

Zehol also cautioned against repeated use of cooking oil and explained the initiative to repurpose used cooking oil. The Food Safety on Wheels team conducted demonstrations on detecting common food adulterants.
