Former Lok Sabha member from Outer Manipur, Dr Lorho S Pfoze, formally joined the National People’s Party (NPP) on Tuesday at a function held at the party headquarters in Shillong. He was welcomed into the party by NPP National President and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.
Welcoming Dr Lorho, Sangma said his experience in public life would strengthen the party’s mission of championing the cause of the North East. “Dr Lorho brings to the party his experience, wisdom, and support base from the State of Manipur. We are confident that Dr Lorho will be an asset to the party and will work closely to further NPP’s mantra of One Voice, One North East,” he stated.
Calling Dr Lorho a widely accepted figure across communities in Manipur, Sangma described him as “soft-spoken, honest, and transparent,” adding that he was passionate about serving the people of the region. He also reiterated the founding vision of late Purno Agitok Sangma, who had envisioned NPP as a platform to give voice to the aspirations of the North East.
Expressing gratitude to the leadership, Dr Lorho said, “We, as indigenous communities, should work together in the region. The vision of late Purno Agitok Sangma is an inspiration for us all. His views were to reach out to all communities in this great nation.”
The event was attended by NPP National Working President James K Sangma, Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, senior party leaders, ministers, and legislators from Meghalaya and Manipur.
