Mokokchung, 29 June (MTNews): In an interview with Karan Thapar for The Wire, former CPI Member of Parliament for outer Manipur, Kim Gangte, expressed her hopes for the Chief Ministers of Nagaland and Mizoram to take the lead in bringing the Kukis and the Meiteis together. Gangte emphasized their close association with Manipur as a key factor in their potential to facilitate reconciliation between the two communities.

Gangte acknowledged the complexity of the situation and called for a “middle path” that would require compromises from both sides. She stressed the need for a “give and take” approach, although she also recognized the inherent difficulty in finding such a middle ground.

The former MP lamented the lack of progress made by the Central Government in Delhi and Chief Minister Biren Singh in initiating talks between the Kukis and the Meiteis. According to Gangte, the failure of the authorities at both levels has compelled her to believe that the responsibility of finding the middle path should rest with the North Eastern states themselves.

When asked about which Chief Ministers she believes are best suited to initiate this process, Gangte pointed to the Chief Ministers of Nagaland and Mizoram. She cited their close association with the communities of Manipur as a crucial factor in their potential to bridge the divide and pave the way for constructive dialogue.
