In a significant blow to the Naga People’s Front (NPF), former Lok Sabha MP Dr Lorho S Pfoze has resigned from both the primary and active membership of the party.

Citing personal reasons, Dr Lorho described the decision as “not easy” but expressed gratitude to the party for the opportunities provided to him and for allowing him to serve the people. In a letter addressed to the NPF president, he stated: “This decision has not been easy for me to take. I appreciate the opportunities the Naga People’s Front has given me to serve in various capacities as an active member. However, due to personal reasons, it has become necessary for me to resign from the party.”

The 65-year-old medical doctor-turned-politician, hailing from the Mao community, was first elected to the Lok Sabha from Outer Manipur in 2019. Despite being a sitting MP, he was denied a party ticket for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Dr Lorho also indicated his willingness to consider joining another political party if a relevant space becomes available.
