Chuireingam Makung, Finance In-Charge of the Manipur Tribal Revolutionary Army (MTRA) and former Army Chief of the Manipur Naga Revolutionary Front (MNRF), has surrendered to the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM) under the Wung Tangkhul Region (WTR), according to a report by The Dawn Tantak.
Makung, a native of Manthouram village, voluntarily laid down his arms at the office of the CAO, WTR, reaffirming his commitment to the political and historical rights of the Nagas. His surrender marks a significant shift in allegiance from his previous affiliations to the NSCN-IM, a prominent group in the Naga political movement.
In a statement issued by NG Athot, Secretary of WTR, the NSCN-IM urged all concerned to respect Makung’s decision and recognize his selfless service to the cause. The group also called for restraint in questioning his commitment.
