State-Level Tournament planned for December 

The Free Martial Arts Summer Camp and Tournament organized by the Mokokchung District Martial Arts Association (MDMAA), which began on June 23, concluded today, July 5, at the Multipurpose Sports Complex, Mokokchung.

The two-week-long event featured multiple martial arts disciplines including Kung Fu, Wushu, Karate, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, and Judo. The camp was open to all individuals aged five and abov e and attracted over 200 participants from across the district.

During the final day of the tournament, Imkumniba Kichu, MMC Councillor (Youth Resources and Sports), attended as the Guest of Honour. In his address, Kichu commended the MDMAA for taking martial arts to the grassroots.

“Martial arts is not just a physical practice but a way of life rooted in tradition,” he said, adding that such events help strengthen community bonds.

Imkumniba Kichu, MMC Councillor (Youth Resources and Sports), attended the event as the Guest of Honour.

The summer camp was led by a team of experienced instructors, including Imyuangdang Leo (Karate), Toshimeren (Kung Fu), Metlesh (Muay Thai), and Bendangakum, 4th DAN – NKMAA (Wushu and Judo).

Prize distribution was also held during the closing function, where medals and certificates were awarded to participants who excelled in various martial arts categories and age groups.

Rongsentoshi Jamir, President of MDMAA, announced that a State Level Martial Arts Competition is being planned for December 2025. He also informed that regular martial arts classes will resume following the camp and continue until the December tournament.

Speaking on behalf of the parents, Dr Sarenti Walling, Assistant Chief Technical Officer, KVK, expressed appreciation for the initiative and encouraged the association to continue nurturing young talent.

The event concluded with exhibition matches and demonstrations by participants and instructors, highlighting the techniques and discipline of the various martial arts forms.
