Mokokchung, 8 June (MTNews): The first phase of the financial year 2023-2024 Social Audit District Level Public Hearing under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) for Mokokchung District was held at DRDA Conference Hall, Mokokchung on 8 June.

 

 

 

Addressing the gathering, Project Officer of DRDA, Imyapangla, highlighted the purpose of social audits, which aim to inform and educate the public about their rights and entitlements. She stressed that the process provides a collective platform for people to voice their concerns and needs, fostering participation at all stages of program implementation.

 

Assistant Director of NSSAA Social Audit Unit Nagaland, Imlirenla Sanglir, informed the participants that the first phase of the social audit covered all districts, focusing on schemes implemented during the period of FY 2012-2022 under the Rural Development Department’s MGNREGS.

 

Sanglir further disclosed that a total of 11 villages were audited in the Tuli Block, namely Anaki Old, Anaki (C), Anaki Yimsen, Asangma, Molungyimsen, Molungyimsen (B), Merangkong, Kangtsung, Kangtsung Yimsen, Aopenzu, and Wamaken.

 

Highlighting the significance of proper bookkeeping at the Village Development Board (VDB) level, Sanglir urged for capacity-building initiatives for village functionaries.

 

During the hearing, Social Audit Resource person Temejenwabang Jamir presented the audit findings and reviewed various recommendations put forth during the session.

 

As an observer representing the District Administration, EAC Kobulong Seyievillie Pfukri emphasized the importance of adhering to proper guidelines for the implementing agency.

 

Key resolutions adopted during the hearing included the deletion of job cards (JC) for deceased, migrated, and fraudulent individuals and the addition of genuine households after thorough verification. Additionally, it was agreed upon to provide training for mates, conduct rozwar diwas regularly, maintain seven registers, and ensure adequate worksite facilities.

 

The hearing witnessed the participation of officials from the Tuli Block’s BDO and staff, DRDA representatives, VDB members, Village Council members, scheme beneficiaries, and representatives from Nagaland in civil society organizations (CSOs).
