Kohima, 27 February (MTNews): As per the sector-wise allocation of funds in the FY 2024-25 Nagaland budget, the Department of Youth Resources and Sports (DYRS) has been provided Rs 1,055 lakh for core activities, including capacity building for youth and sports personnel, tournaments, and sports infrastructure. The allocation also includes funds for music and arts.

While presenting his budget, the Chief Minister elaborated on the sector-wise allocation and informed that the DYRS will undertake the construction of Futsal and Multipurpose halls in different parts of the State to promote sports activities.

The Chief Minister further stated that indoor stadiums in the four new districts of Shamator, Niuland, Chümoukedima, and Tseminyu, along with pre-fabricated indoor stadium cum multipurpose halls at Tuensang and Noklak, have been constructed through the scheme of Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment. He mentioned, “Construction of pre-fabricated Multi Utility Centre for Task Force on Music and Arts (TaFMA), Kohima, and the construction of a Football Stadium at Police Complex, Chümoukedima have been initiated and will be made functional during the current year.”

“The Government continues to allocate funds for the completion of the Multi Disciplinary Sports Complex at Dimapur. Simultaneously, the state will be pursuing funding with the Government of India,” he added.

Meanwhile, MLA Er Picto Shohe, participating in the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address, highlighted Nagas’ enthusiasm in sports and congratulated the medal winners from Nagaland at the recently concluded National Games 2023.

Advisor, Printing & Stationery, Prisons, Er Kropol Vitsu, and MLA Achumbemo Kikon also commended the achievements of Naga sportspersons. Kikon urged the government to promote and encourage Naga youths to take up sports by providing employment in government offices through sports quotas.

It is worth mentioning that Governor La. Ganesan, while addressing the NLA on Monday, stated that the Government aims to foster a sporting culture and make the State a leading sporting power in the country.
