The 5th Padmashree W. Nokdenlemba Open Volleyball Tournament 2024, organized by the Ao Students’ Conference (AKM), concluded with an intense and closely contested final between G-Sports Mokokchung and United Changki at the Multipurpose Sports Complex, Mokokchung, on October 11, 2024. The tournament, held under the theme “One Team One Spirit,” drew in a large crowd, who witnessed a gripping five-set battle.

Before the highly anticipated final, a short program was conducted, chaired by Imolemla, with the invocation led by Rev. L. Tia Jamir, Pastor of Alichen Baptist Arogo. A special number was performed by Putusenla, and the vote of thanks was delivered by AKM President, Lanutoshi Aier. The Guest of Honor, Imkong L. Imchen, Hon’ble Advisor and MLA, Government of Nagaland, gave a brief speech and generously donated 1 lakh rupees to the AKM.

In the semifinals, G-Sports Mokokchung defeated Changtongya Volleyball Association, while United Changki overcame Michazou Kohima, setting up a highly anticipated final showdown.

The final match between G-Sports Mokokchung and United Changki lived up to expectations, with both teams demonstrating exceptional skill and determination. G-Sports Mokokchung claimed the first set 25-19, but United Changki bounced back to win the second and third sets, 26-24 and 28-26, respectively. With the match finely balanced, G-Sports leveled the contest by taking the fourth set 25-22, forcing the match into a decisive fifth set. In the final set, G-Sports Mokokchung displayed their experience and composure, winning 15-8 to clinch the title.

Each set was highly competitive, with both teams pushing each other to the limit, but G-Sports Mokokchung ultimately emerged victorious in a display of grit and resilience.

The winners, G-Sports Mokokchung, were awarded 1 lakh rupees, while the runners-up, United Changki, received 50 thousand rupees. The semifinalists, Changtongya Volleyball Association and Michazou Kohima, each received 20 thousand rupees for their impressive performances.

The finals were a testament to the spirit of competition, with both teams showcasing their worth as finalists. The crowd’s energy and support added to the excitement of a match that went down to the wire, making this edition of the tournament one to remember.
