Gangtok, Sikkim, hosted the Joint Executive Committee Meeting of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) India Region Zone-III and the North East Regional Institute of Parliamentary Studies, Training & Research (NERIPSTR) on April 3.

Sharingain Longkumer, Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, presided over the meeting as Chairman and President. The session brought together the Presiding Officers of the eight North Eastern States, accompanied by senior officials from their respective State Legislatures.

A key highlight of the meeting was the discussion and tentative finalization of the dates for the upcoming 22nd Annual CPA Conference, proposed to be held in Kohima, Nagaland. After thorough deliberations, the committee agreed on November 9–15, 2025, as the tentative dates, subject to the approval of the Speaker of the Lok Sabha.

During the meeting, reports were presented by the Commissioner and Secretary of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, the Secretary of CPA India Region Zone-III, and the Additional Director of NERIPSTR. Following these presentations, the Chairman, with the consensus of the house, announced the formation of two subcommittees to advance the CPA’s objectives in the region.

Subcommittee 1, to be led by the Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly (Vice Chairman, CPA India Region Zone-III) along with the Speakers of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, will oversee workshops, seminars, and parliamentary initiatives to promote the CPA’s vision.

Subcommittee 2 will be headed by the Speaker of Sikkim, supported by the Speakers of Mizoram and Tripura, and will be tasked with producing a bi-monthly newsletter highlighting CPA and NERIPSTR activities.

The meeting also discussed fiscal measures to strengthen NERIPSTR’s operational capabilities. It concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by the Speaker of Sikkim, followed by an exchange of pleasantries among the delegates.
