Kohima, 29 February (MTNews): In a significant move towards transparency and efficiency, the Gauhati High Court Kohima Bench has taken a pioneering step by launching its Online Right to Information (RTI) portal.
This marks a first for the State of Nagaland, with the Online RTI portal formally launched on February 29, 2024, by Justice Devashis Baruah, Judge of the Gauhati High Court and ICT In-charge of Kohima Bench. The launch event was attended by Justice Susmita Phukan Khaund, another Judge of the Gauhati High Court, and officials of the High Court Registry.
To commemorate this milestone, Justice Devashis Baruah symbolically filed the first online, paperless e-RTI application at the Kohima Bench through the dedicated web portal. It is noteworthy that Section 6(1) of the Right to Information Act, 2005, allows information seekers to submit applications through electronic means.
Previously, RTI applications could only be filed through physical means. The initiation of the Online RTI portal aims to provide convenience for people to access information about the Gauhati High Court and its outlying Benches. Through the web portal, Indian citizens can now file their RTI applications and First Appeals online, and make payments for fees and copying charges through the online payment gateway. Fee payments can be made online via Internet Banking or UPI.
To access the Online RTI portal, citizens can click on the dedicated “RTI” tab available on the official website of the Gauhati High Court Kohima Bench. The web portal features a user-friendly interface and operates on an end-to-end paperless mode. The online RTI facility is expected to be extended to all District Courts of Nagaland in the near future.
