Mining issues mandatory registration notice for drilling agencies, groundwater users
The Director of Directorate of Geology & Mining, Nagaland, Dr Kenyelo Rengma, has issued a public notice directing all drilling agencies and firms, including manual hand-boring parties operating within Nagaland, to obtain a permit and register their machinery and equipment with the Directorate.
The notice further stated that all commercial and industrial users of groundwater—such as water bottling plants, car wash centres, and water parks—are also required to obtain a permit for groundwater extraction from the Department.
Application forms can be collected from the Directorate of Geology & Mining, Dimapur, during office working hours. The registration process must be completed on or before 30 November 2025.
Failure to comply with these directives shall invite penalty and/or legal action under the provisions of the Nagaland Groundwater (Regulation and Control of Development and Management) Rules, 2020, the notice warned.
