Government High School, VK Town conducted a seminar on 19 August on the theme ‘Sex Education,’ with Dr Mughaka Awomi, MBBS, MO, PHC VK Town, as the resource person. The aim was to impart knowledge and skills to prepare students for healthy self and social relationships.
In his speech, Dr Mughaka stressed on the need to move away from traditional preconceptions of the term and encouraged a broader understanding of the topic. He began by posing the question, “What is sex?”
The doctor highlighted areas such as human development, spirituality, self and social relationships, character, communication skills, decision-making, and sexual health and behavior, explaining how each trait influences and impacts the others.
He concluded by addressing the misuse of social media and its potential to negatively impact all the above-mentioned characteristics, leading to negative social relationships in the form of shame, stigmatization, and social distancing.
