Global Naga Forum rejects WC-NNPG’s ‘baseless’ allegations

The Global Naga Forum (GNF) has issued a strong rebuttal to the Working Committee of the Naga National Political Groups (WC-NNPG) following allegations made in the WC-NNPG’s statement titled “W/C/NNPG’S Take on 21 Opposition MP’s Letter on Naga Issue” dated February 19, 2025.

In the statement, the WC-NNPG had accused the GNF of being “propped-up mouthpieces of IM,” referring to the NSCN-IM, and labeled the forum as an “appendage” of the group. The WC-NNPG had also charged the GNF with “fuelling division” among the Naga people.

Dismissing these claims as “random and baseless,” the GNF stated that it “categorically rejects the baseless allegation and false accusation.”

The forum emphasized its guiding principle, declaring, “‘One People, One Destiny,’ which is our motto, and advocating for Nagas the human right of political self-determination in our homeland.”

The GNF stressed that it stands firmly against external impositions on the rights of the Naga people. “We don’t believe Nagas need other people’s permission to live and govern ourselves in our own lands,” the statement read, adding that Nagas also do not need “the unending imposition of the repressive military law (AFSPA)” that permits the armed forces to act with impunity.

Highlighting the human rights dimension, the forum remarked, “Nor do Nagas need Indian ‘security forces’ curbing our freedom of movement in our homeland.” It expressed disdain for being “fenced in and out of India in our own ancestral homeland in the name of India’s ‘national security.’”

The GNF underscored its role as a global body dedicated to defending human rights, noting that some of its members have contributed to international human rights discourse while others are actively advocating for justice and human rights at home, in India, and other countries.

“The Global Naga Forum would be remiss if it did not stand up for our own human right not to be falsely and publicly accused of being something or someone we are not,” the forum stated.

The GNF urged the WC-NNPG to respect its “right to truthful representation as fellow Nagas,” ending the statement with a resolute “Kuknalim.”
