The Global Naga Forum (GNF) has raised concerns about the potential negative impact of the Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN) on Naga unity and rights. The RIIN, introduced by the Nagaland government, aims to protect land and employment rights for indigenous Nagas by regulating the influx of non-Nagas. While GNF acknowledged the intent behind the RIIN, it warned that its implementation could deepen divisions among Nagas and fail to address the core issue of illegal immigration.

GNF in a press release expressed concerns that while the RIIN might benefit a few individuals in securing government jobs, it would not protect indigenous rights. Instead, it could create competition among Nagas for limited opportunities, while the unchecked influx of outsiders continues.

The Forum also highlighted the risk of creating deeper divisions among Nagas from different regions. It warned that the RIIN could lead to Nagas excluding one another, based on regional differences, undermining Naga solidarity.

GNF urged the Nagaland government and Naga leaders to focus on uniting the community and working towards a lasting political solution to the Indo-Naga issue, rather than implementing divisive policies like the RIIN.
