Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Mokokchung, under the host institute of the Directorate of Agriculture, celebrated the Golden Jubilee of KVKs on 19 July 2024 at its campus with ‘Torch Prayan’. The symbolic torch was handed over to KVK Mokokchung on 18 July by KVK Longleng, which was then passed on to KVK Tuensang.
The program was chaired by Khekali Sema, ACTO Horticulture, and the keynote address was given by Dr Keviletsu Khate, Senior Scientist and Head. Dr Khate mentioned that to celebrate the Golden Jubilee, ICAR has initiated a torch rally that will culminate at the ICAR-KVK Golden Jubilee conference 2024 in New Delhi, marking the grand finale of the historic celebration. He underscored the significance of the torch as a symbol of knowledge dissemination from KVKs to all 731 KVK districts across the country.
Further, various vegetable and fruit crops and income-generating enterprises like vermicompost, mushrooms, and apiary, which were tested by the Kendra and found viable in the district, were discussed with the participants.
Samuel Sangtam, ACTO Agronomy, KVK Tuensang, who received the torch on behalf of KVK Tuensang, encouraged the participants to adopt these viable technologies, emphasizing that Mokokchung is blessed with good topography and congenial weather conditions for agriculture and allied activities compared to Tuensang.
On behalf of the farmers, Limasanen acknowledged the contribution of the Kendra and requested further augmentation of activities for the benefit of the farmers.
During the interaction, topics such as economic feeding of poultry incorporating Azolla, maize produced through hydroponics, and the use of sawdust as litter material were discussed. Altogether, 30 participants attended the program.
