The Gorkha Students’ Union Mokokchung organized a vibrant program in celebration of the birth anniversary of Nepali poet Adikavi Bhanu Bhakta Acharya on July 13 at Town Hall, Mokokchung.

BR Subba, Vice-president of the Nagaland Gorkha Association, graced the occasion with his presence as the special guest. In his speech, he reminisced about the time when he was a mere member of the Gorkha Students’ Union, with able leaders and elders who have retired or are no longer alive. He also mentioned that Gorkhas, not just in Nagaland but all over India, under the leadership of different able individuals, are striving for demands of identity, which will hopefully be achieved in the future. He emphasized the importance of the Nepali language and literature in preserving their culture and tradition.

The welcome note was delivered by Prashant Thapa, President of the Gorkha Students’ Union, Mokokchung. The significance of the day was presented by Chandra Rana, while a poem was recited by Ewan Tamang. The program also witnessed the felicitation of academic achievers in HSLC & HSSLC Exams.

There were two sessions: the formal session was followed by the talent presentation session, where dances and talents related to Bhanu Jayanthi were exhibited. Traditional Nepali dance, musical performances, traditional Nepali folk music, and modern dance performances were also part of the celebration.
