The Gorkha Students’ Union Mokokchung organized the 209th Bhanu Jayanti Celebration on 13 July, joining the global Gorkha community in commemorating this significant occasion. The event took place at Town Hall, Mokokchung, showcasing the rich cultural heritage and literary prowess of the Nepali community.

Bhanu Jayanti holds immense importance for Nepalese people worldwide as it honors the renowned poet and writer Bhanubhakta Acharya, best known for his translation of the Hindu Holy Book Ramayana into Nepali. This year marked the 209th birth anniversary of the esteemed poet.

 

The celebration was graced by Colonel Rahul Gurung, Kirti Chakra, Commandant, 12th Assam Rifles, who served as the Chief Guest. Additionally, Sangeeta Sharma, Principal of Jubilee Memorial School, attended the event as the Guest of Honor.

 

Colonel Rahul Gurung, in his speech, emphasized the importance of unity and the need to showcase exemplary harmony, unity, and mutual co-existence within the Gorkha community. He also acknowledged the effort put into organizing the celebration, commending the Gorkha Students’ Union Mokokchung for their dedicated work.

 

During her address, the Guest of Honor highlighted the significance of human values, virtues, and good deeds. She emphasized that while educational qualifications are valuable, it is equally important to possess human values and virtues. As an educator, she urged parents not to compare their children to others solely based on grades and academic performance, emphasizing the broader aspects of education and character development.

 

The festivities included a range of events that showcased traditional Gorkha attire and ornaments. Attendees were treated to vibrant cultural dances as well as poetry recitations and musical performances.

 

As part of the celebration, distinguished educationists and professionals from various fields within the Gorkha community were felicitated.

 

Additionally, a literary event had been held prior to the Bhanu Jayanti Celebration, and during the program, presentations were made, and prizes were distributed to the winners.

 

The vibrant celebration attracted over 500 attendees, including members of the Gorkha community and invitees from various organizations and departments.
