Kohima, 10 January (MTNews): The Gorkha Youth Association Kohima (GYAK) held the installation program of new office bearers cum general meeting on January 10, 2024 at GPPK Hall, Chandmari, Kohima.

Gracing the occasion as the special guest, Asangla Longkumer, w/o Temjenmenba, Advisor for Transport and Technical Education, Government of Nagaland, said the Gorkha community has been closely associated with the Nagas since time immemorial and they have contributed a lot to the growth of the Naga society.

Lamenting that today communities are fighting against communities, she said it has become all the more important to maintain the spirit of brotherhood, support each other and create an atmosphere where we can live together as a family.

She said in order to do that people should stand united, help each other during difficult times then only we can come together.

In this, she said, the Gorkha youth has an important role to play in building bridges with various other communities.

In order to gain the respect and trust of other communities, she said we have to be trustworthy and truthful to each other and this will only happen when we are truthful to ourselves.

Appealing to the Gorkha youth to work towards having a strong community, she asked them to stay committed to building a successful and peaceful future for the younger generation.

Congratulating the outgoing team for a successful tenure, Asangla extended best wishes to the new team of GYAK executives and also exhorted them to have long term vision and to be wise, capable and knowledgeable to take the youth and community forward.

She further encouraged all the youth of the Gorkha community to join hands and contribute towards a common future. She called upon everyone to work hard and to be successful people, because successful people can impact society positively.

Gorkha Students’ Union Kohima vice president Jenny Lamechane chaired the program while GYAK advisor Milan Sunam delivered the welcome address and GYAK president Narayan Bahadur shared the closing remarks. Karishma Rasaily and Novin Gurung enthralled the gathering with a special number.

The new team of GYAK executives for the tenure 2024-26 is led by Narayan Bahadur as the president and Somik Khawas as general secretary. Other officials include: vice presidents – Kiran Gurung, Anil Rai & Nikhil Thapa; assistant general secretary Gunmaya Gurung, treasurer Robi Thapa, finance secretary Popin Rai, games & sports secretary Robin Lama, assistant games & sports secretary Nobin Thapa, information & publicity secretary Ravi Lamechane, cultural secretary Pranita Rai. The advisors are Milan Sunam & Jiwan Limbu.
