The Gorkha Youth Club Dimapur (GYCD) organised a voluntary blood donation camp at District Hospital Dimapur on Tuesday to honour the legacy of Shaheed Major Durga Malla and Shaheed Captain Neikezhakuo Kengurüse.
The camp marked the death anniversary of Major Durga Malla, a Gorkha freedom fighter of the Indian National Army who was executed by the British on August 25, 1944. It also paid tribute to Captain N Kengurüse, Maha Vir Chakra recipient, who made the supreme sacrifice during the 1999 Kargil War.
The programme was chaired by Anand Gurung, Advisor and Programme Coordinator. Shikupu Zhimomi, General Secretary of the Business Consultancy Network, who represented President Tungupu K. Zhimomi, appreciated the GYCD’s social initiatives and described blood donation as “the ultimate gift of life to society.”
Dr. Rongsenmar Longkumer, Consultant and In-charge of the hospital’s Blood Bank, encouraged citizens to donate blood and dispel common misconceptions. He said medically fit individuals aged 18 and above can safely donate blood twice a year.
GYCD president Sumit Sunar said the Gorkha community had always stood in service of the nation and remained ready to respond whenever society or the country was in need.
The donation drive was conducted under the supervision of the hospital’s medical team, with volunteers donating blood. Initial reports indicated that 12 to 15 units had been collected.
