Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav on Thursday emphasised the need to create greater opportunities for young people to develop their talents, leadership abilities and sporting potential while reviewing the activities of the Department of Youth Resources and Sports (YRS) at Naga Bhavan Conference Hall, Lok Bhavan, Kohima.
Chairing a review meeting of the department, the Governor appreciated its efforts in promoting youth welfare and sports excellence across the state. He urged officials to strengthen grassroots initiatives and ensure that the benefits of youth and sports programmes reach all sections of society.
According to an official update, the Governor reviewed major programmes conducted during 2025-26, including Nagaland’s Next Top Player, State-Level Pre-Subroto Tournament, National Sports Day celebrations, youth festivals, youth exchange programmes, adventure activities, women’s futsal initiatives and grassroots football development.
The department informed the Governor about the achievements of Nagaland athletes in disciplines such as taekwondo, sepaktakraw, archery, boxing and pencak silat at national and international competitions.
Yadav was also briefed on infrastructure projects being implemented under various schemes, including Khelo India, PM-DevINE, SASCI and NESIDS-OTRI. Officials highlighted the completion of several indoor halls, futsal grounds and sports facilities, while major projects such as the Kohima Multi-Disciplinary Sports Centre remain under implementation.
The Governor also reviewed future initiatives, including the proposed Chief Minister’s Sports Initiative, aimed at providing scholarships, advanced coaching and exposure opportunities for talented athletes across Nagaland.
