Chumoukedima, 28 June (MTNews): Nagaland Governor, La Ganesan, conducted an interactive meeting with the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Heads of Departments (HoDs) in Chumoukedima on 28 June. The meeting took place at Rhododendron Hall in Chumoukedima, where the Governor addressed the attendees.
Governor Ganesan expressed his privilege in visiting the Chumoukedima district, highlighting its rich history starting from the British era and its significance in the formation of Nagaland. He mentioned that Chumoukedima was once designated as the first headquarters of the Naga Hills District in Assam Province, British India. Furthermore, he noted that the district is the third-largest urban agglomeration in Nagaland after Dimapur and Kohima.
The Governor emphasized the district’s advantageous geographical location and other favorable factors. He praised the good topography, fertile soil, and suitable climate for farming and business in Chumoukedima. He also acknowledged the presence of well-established central institutions, universities, schools, and colleges in the district. With people from all tribes of Nagaland calling Chumoukedima their home, it has earned the nickname “Mini Nagaland.” Governor Ganesan expressed his desire to see Chumoukedima become a developed district, serving as an inspiration for other districts in Nagaland to progress and prosper.
During his speech, the Governor stressed the importance of providing quality education. He mentioned the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which aims to make the Indian educational system more inclusive, flexible, and learner-centered. Governor Ganesan urged educational institutions to stay updated with developments and conform to national policies for the benefit of students.
Healthcare was another significant focus area discussed by the Governor. He highlighted various government health-related schemes, including Ayushman Bharat, Pradhan Mantri Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, and the state’s own CM Health Insurance Scheme. He encouraged the concerned departments to ensure these schemes reach the citizens effectively. Additionally, he mentioned the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, which aims to eradicate tuberculosis by 2025, calling for enhanced awareness about the disease and its treatment.
Governor Ganesan also emphasized the provision of safe drinking water through the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and the importance of banking services, especially Jan-Dhan accounts for eligible citizens. He requested the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) to ensure the benefits of the JJM scheme reach every citizen and urged the District Lead Bank Authority to conduct financial literacy camps to enhance awareness.
Furthermore, the Governor expressed his concern that Nagaland has lagged behind in development due to various issues faced by the state. He emphasized the need for peace and extra efforts to catch up with other parts of the country. He encouraged everyone to be model citizens, law-abiding, and cooperative with the government at both the central and state levels. Governor Ganesan called for a reaffirmation of commitment to democratic values and ideals enshrined in the constitution for the progress of a united and prosperous nation.
