As the chief guest of the event, Governor Ganesan emphasized the inclusive spirit of Onam, a festival that brings people of different religions, castes, and economic backgrounds together. He praised the way Keralites all over the world celebrate Onam with a sense of unity and equality, drawing from his personal experiences during a brief stay in Kerala.

Governor Ganesan also lauded Onam as a unique festival that fosters communal harmony, bringing people of all faiths together. He stressed that such festivals promote harmonious living without distinctions based on religion, caste, or color.

Highlighting the significance of King Mahabali, he noted that Mahabali symbolizes an ideal ruler who governed with love, care, and a commitment to truth. This, he believed, aligns with Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of Ram Rajya in India.

Governor Ganesan expressed his admiration for various elements of Onam, including the floral carpet (pookalam), boat races (Vallamkali), traditional dances like kolukali, thiruvathira, and pulikali, and the grand feast known as onasadhya, which are cherished traditions performed during the festival.

Acknowledging that the Malayali community had left their homeland for livelihood opportunities in Nagaland, Governor Ganesan commended them for preserving their customs, traditions, and togetherness in their new home.

During the event, Governor Ganesan presented awards and prizes, including recognition for Abey Chacko, who achieved success in the HSLC 2023 exams. He also extended his congratulations to the organizers and participants for their outstanding performances in the cultural events.
