Speaking on the occasion, Governor La Ganesan stated that the gathering celebrated not only the musical prowess of the police bands but also the spirit of unity, discipline, and dedication exhibited by the armed police forces. He noted that military and police bands have been a cornerstone of military tradition for centuries, serving multiple roles that extend beyond music. “They play a crucial part in military structure, communication, morale, and national identity,” he added. “From ancient times to the modern era, military bands have evolved, adapting to the needs of the times while retaining their significance in military culture.”

Ganesan pointed out that, prior to modern science and technology, music was an essential tool for communication to convey orders and signals across vast and often chaotic battlefields. Instruments like drums, bugles, and trumpets were used to command the troops, coordinate movements, and provide rhythm during marches. In particular, buglers would play specific calls, such as “assembly” or “retreat,” which would alert soldiers to regroup, charge, or retreat, ensuring coordinated movements during battle.

He emphasized that the 25th All India Police Band Competition should not just be a showcase of musical talent, but a testament to the hard work and commitment of police personnel. “This event is an opportunity to celebrate and recognize the importance of music in enhancing the morale and spirit within our police forces,” he said.

The Governor urged all participants to embrace the spirit of competition with enthusiasm and sportsmanship. While winning is undoubtedly a goal, he stressed that the true essence of the event lies in forging bonds of friendship. “Each band brings with it a unique story,” he added, “and I encourage you to share those stories through your music.” He expressed his best wishes to all the teams participating in the competition, hoping their performances would be filled with passion and creativity and inspire all who hear them. “Let this event be a reminder of the strength of our nation’s spirit, the dedication of our police forces, and the unifying power of music.”

In conclusion, he extended his best wishes to the host, Assam Rifles, one of the oldest and most respected paramilitary forces in India, with a distinguished history dating back to 1835. He praised their high degree of professionalism, operational efficiency, and preparedness. He also wished the organizers, jury members, and participants the best and hoped the occasion would pave the way for a stronger bond and camaraderie between the police forces of the nation.

Highlights of the program included a march-past by the participating teams, a welcome address, and the presentation of a memento to Governor La Ganesan by the Additional Director General of Assam Rifles. This was followed by the unfurling of the All-India Police Sports Control Board Flag. The vote of thanks was proposed by the Commandant of Assam Rifles Training Centre & School. A cultural presentation by North East Centric also added to the occasion.
