As a mark of respect to the departed dignitary, the Government of Nagaland has declared seven days of state mourning from 16 to 22 August 2025. During this period, the national flag will be flown at half-mast on all buildings where it is regularly displayed.
Governor of Nagaland, La Ganesan, passed away on 15 August 2025 at Apollo Hospital in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
The state government has also announced that there will be no official entertainment during the mourning period. The notification was issued by Chief Secretary Sentiyanger Imchen, IAS, on 15 August 2025.
Ganesan was appointed Governor of Nagaland in February 2023.
