Kohima, March 14 (MTNews): In a significant development that is expected to promote science among students of Nagaland, the Governor of Nagaland has instituted an award to encourage the students of Nagaland to excel in the study of Basic Sciences. The Award will be known as “Governor’s Excellence Award in Science Study of HSSLC Examination”.

 

It may be recalled that Mokokchung Times had on February 28 highlighted the disquieting condition and grim reality of Nagaland’s science and innovation sectors as revealed by interactions with science enthusiasts.

 

The Governor’s Excellence Award announced today will be given to the best six students in science stream with the subject combination of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM), and Physics, Chemistry and Biology (PCB).

 

In each category, a student who secures first position will receive a cash award of Rs 1,00,000, while the second and third position holders will each receive a cash award of Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000, respectively, an official update informed.

 

As per the criteria laid down, the “Governor’s Excellence Award in Science Study of HSSLC Examination” will be awarded in order of merit in the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) Examination in science stream conducted by the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) with the prescribed subject combination.

 

A citation along with the cash award will be awarded with effect from this year’s HSSLC Examination. The students must belong to an Indigenous Scheduled Tribe of Nagaland.
The one-time award will be given to students who secure 80% or more in their aggregate. No student will be entitled for two awards.

 

To qualify for the award in either category, the subjects Mathematics and Biology must be main elective subjects. In case of a student offering both Mathematics and Biology subject as main elective subjects, the subject where the student secures higher marks will be considered for deciding the category of award.

 

The candidate scoring the highest aggregate as per the subject combination will be awarded and in case of a tie in marks and aggregate, whosoever secures higher marks in the external marks of PCM or PCB will be considered.

 

In case of a tie for PCB, the higher marks of Biology in both external and internal will be considered first after which the marks of Chemistry external and internal will be considered.
In case of further tie for PCM, the higher marks of Mathematics in external and internal will be considered first and then the higher marks of Physics external and internal will be taken to consideration. Furthermore, if there is a tie, the award will be shared.
