The GPRN/NSCN (Mathung/Kitovi) hosted a Pre-Christmas Celebration at 5th Mile, Chumoukedima, on December 15, 2024, marking the anticipation of the arrival, or “advent,” of Jesus of Nazareth, recognized as the long-awaited Messiah and King, according to an update.
The event was chaired by Apong (Assistant Chaplain) and documented by Khehuto Zhimomi (Home Secretary).
The program commenced with an invocation delivered by Atoshe Yeptho (Kilonser). The welcome address was given by Hukavi Yepthomi (Kilo Kilonser). In his remarks, Yepthomi emphasized the unwavering grace of God that has blessed the government’s progress thus far.
The audience was captivated by a series of soulful musical presentations performed by various families and individual artists.
The exhortation was delivered by Ato Kilonser Kitovi N Zhimomi, who emphasized the significance of embracing the themes of tolerance, forgiveness, generosity, and goodwill among the Naga people, rooted in a genuine Christian ethos. He observed that many individuals within the Naga community celebrate Christmas not in a spiritual manner, but rather in a superficial context, where emphasis is placed on social gatherings, new attire, and the anticipation of gifts. Furthermore, he noted that new converts from Hinduism and Islam are increasingly taking the lead in Christian worship within churches and community gatherings in the current generation. This situation has led to confusion among the Naga people, where cultural and religious practices have become intertwined.
Kuwoto Yesca (Joint Secretary of Keeya Affairs) commenced the event by delivering a thoughtful reading of scripture, setting a reflective tone for the proceedings.
This was followed by an insightful message from Speaker Nochotole Yosa (Chaplain). In her address, Yosa elaborated on the profound significance of the Spirit of Giving, emphasizing that this principle lies at the heart of a meaningful Christmas celebration. She articulated that the act of giving is exemplified in God’s gift of His only Son, a sacrifice made to bring good news to the world.
Yosa urged the audience to recognize that every God-fearing Christian must practice selflessness in their contributions to others, beginning with their immediate neighbors. She asserted that such acts of generosity are essential in realizing the true essence of Christian brotherhood, fostering a community built on mutual support and compassion. Through her words, she inspired her listeners to embrace this spirit in their daily lives and interactions.
The program ended with Mass Benediction, followed by Christmas Cake Cutting and a Christmas Feast.
