The GPRN/NSCN (Mhathung-Kitovi) celebrated the 78th Naga Independence Day on August 14, 2024, at 5th Mile, Chumukedima, with an attendance of 500-600 officials, civil society members, and well-wishers, an update from the group’s MIP said.
The program began with an invocation prayer led by Hokiye L Awomi, MRA Kilonser. The flag hoisting was conducted by Jungshiwati, Deputy Ato Kilonser, followed by a welcome address from Hukavi Yepthomi, Kilo Kilonser. In his 78th Independence Day speech, Jungshiwati provided a brief history of the pioneers and emphasized the importance of their sacrifices, along with the current situation of the Naga generation.
N Kitovi Zhimomi, Ato Kilonser, highlighted the present political situation in Nagaland and stressed the significance of the May 16, 1951, plebiscite. He concluded by urging the current Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, to be a man of his word and to soon convene all negotiating parties for the final agreement.
The occasion was graced by special songs from Khesheli Achumi, Tatar, and the Aiko Club, L Khel Dipuphar. The vote of thanks was delivered by F Pongba Konyak, AG Secretary, and the program concluded with a benediction prayer by Nochotole Yosa, Chaplain.
