In a significant crackdown on cybercrime, police in Junagadh have apprehended ten individuals including six from Nagaland and 2 from Manipur, for their involvement in an illegal call center operation targeting American citizens on Thursday.

Law enforcement agents also seized Rs 3 lakh in cash, along with other items valued at Rs 8.50 lakh at the scene. The operation’s main hub, however, was traced back to Ahmedabad, and authorities are now on the hunt for the five masterminds operating from there.

The officials informed on Friday that the fraudulent call center was traced to flat number 601 in Ishan Platinum, located in the Lakshminagar area. The criminals utilized an array of technology, including laptops, mobile phones, and iPads, to carry out their illicit activities. The operation was staffed by five females and five males, bringing the total number of arrests to ten.

Initial interrogations of the suspects revealed that the masterminds behind this operation were identified as Harjitsinh Chhatrapalsinh Rana, hailing from Tali, Lakhtar in Surendranagar, along with his cousin, Indrajitsinh Mahavirsinh Rana, as well as Jayal Patel, Digvijaysinh Gambhirsinh Rana (of Tavi, Lakhtar), and Isha Ranjit Vyas, residing in Thane West, Maharashtra. Of note, Indrajitsinh Rana is the son of a retired Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) in Junagadh, Mahavirsinh Rana.
