The Guwahati High Court (Kohima Bench) on 20 September, 2024 has quashed the appointments of 935 constables in Nagaland’s Home Department made between January 2018 and October 2019. The court found that these recruits were appointed without proper advertisement.

The ruling, delivered by a bench chaired by Justice Devashis Baruah, directed the state to conduct a fresh selection process for the 935 Nagaland police constables. The court ordered that the new selection should be carried out through advertisements in well-circulated newspapers within Nagaland.

Justice Baruah emphasized that the state must adhere to legal protocols during the selection process and has urged that it be completed at the earliest, preferably, within six months from the date of the judgment. This ruling underscores the importance of transparency and fairness in the recruitment process for government positions.
