The Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) has achieved a historic milestone with the successful completion of the first cadaver kidney transplant in the region. A cadaver kidney transplant involves the transplantation of a kidney from a deceased donor (cadaveric donor) to a recipient.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who also serves as the Health Minister, praised this achievement, emphasizing the pivotal role played by the family members of a brain-dead patient.
On Saturday, Chief Minister Sarma stated that the family members of a brain-dead patient donated two kidneys. Following this, an expert team of doctors at Guwahati Medical College and Hospital successfully performed kidney transplants on two other patients, as reported by India Today NE.
