Mokokchung, August 17 (MTNews):Hamara Grid have incubated 68 MSMEs in 3 months across 3 villages in Mon, Nagaland. Going forward, they will collaborate with SPI, other partners and rural communities to provide 24/7 clean energy in over 1000 villages in Northeast India.

Hamara Grid Pvt. Ltd was founded in July 2020 with a vision to provide services in the rural minigrid space.

Anushka Duggal for renewablewatch.in writes that, according to the managing director of Hamara Grid, Colonel Vijay Bhaskar, the most operational challenges faced by Hamara Grid in Nagaland is the fact that Nagaland receives electricity via a long transmission line coming from Assam which makes the power weak and unreliable.
“Due to storms and heavy rainfall, trees fall and lines are cut for almost a week at times,” Bhaskar was quoted saying.

Reportedly, Hamara Grid also faces disruption with logistics as the equipment often travels more than 2,000 km to reach Nagaland, which has a hilly terrain. It was reported that the company source their equipments from all over India. For instance, the batteries come from Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Vishakhapatnam, Udaipur or Sanand while the Solar Panels come from Kolkata.

“As the villages are on the top of the mountains, the cost premium is almost 20 per cent,” said Bhaskar.

Bhaskar added that going forward, the grid will collaborate with rural communities to provide 24/7 clean electricity in over 1,000 villages across Northeast India and that the mission shall begin in the Mon district of Nagaland.

The project in Nagaland is carried out in collaboration with the district administration of Mon district, the village councils, Smart power India, NABARD and World Resource Institute.

Over the next three and a half years, the company aims to gradually electrify all 132 villages in Mon district. The project is said to be implemented in three phases: 15 villages in the first phase, 35 in the second and the remaining in the third phase.
