Three-day Wipro earthian camp blends ecology, culture and sustainability

Participant teams of the Wipro earthian programme from Kohima district successfully conducted the Happy Trail 3 Camping Trip from February 27 to March 1, 2026, at Dzuleke Village. The three day camp brought together 18 students, three teachers, two mentors and community members for an immersive learning experience rooted in ecology, culture and sustainability under the Wipro earthian initiative.

The camp featured a range of hands on activities designed to connect students with nature and indigenous knowledge systems. Participants learned traditional cane basket weaving from a local artisan, explored biodiversity through a bird watching session and undertook nature walks to Dzulekiechie Falls, Khwukhabadze, Mezhazhu and the surrounding paddy fields. Students also foraged wild edible plants and learned to prepare traditional dishes, gaining insights into sustainable food practices and local livelihoods.

Evening campfire and storytelling sessions provided a platform for sharing indigenous myths, legends, values and lived experiences of the community. A focused session on writing field notes and reflective documentation helped strengthen students’ observation, analytical and critical thinking skills.

The programme received strong support from the Dzuleke Village Council and the Teacher in Charge of Government Primary School Dzuleke Seyielhoukho, along with fellow teachers. The camp was also visited by Patricia Vizo, Joint Director, Department of School Education, and Rokonieno, Additional Deputy Commissioner, District Mission Authority, Samagra Shiksha Kohima, whose presence encouraged the participants.

The Happy Trail 3 Camping Trip successfully fostered environmental awareness, cultural appreciation and responsible citizenship among young learners, reinforcing the value of experiential learning beyond the classroom.
