The Indian Medical Association (IMA) Mokokchung local branch, in collaboration with the CME (Continuing Medical Education) organizing Committee Mokokchung, celebrated National Doctors’ Day on July 1 at the Conference Hall, CMO Office Mokokchung, under the theme “Healing hands, caring hearts.”
Dr Imtimeren Jamir, retired Principal Director of DHFW, highlighted the significance of the day, which commemorates the birth and death anniversary of Dr BC Roy, a distinguished physician who played a significant role in shaping the healthcare scenario of India, championing the development of medical education and services.
Jamir emphasized that National Doctors’ Day is a reminder of the responsibility and privilege doctors have in caring for others. According to Jamir, it celebrates their selfless service, dedication, and the sacrifices they make to heal and improve lives.
”We have chosen a profession that demands long hours, mental and emotional fortitude, and a steadfast commitment to lifelong learning. Yet, we are driven by an innate desire to heal, comfort, and improve the lives of our patients,” stated Jamir.
He further mentioned that the day also highlights the critical role doctors play in shaping health and well-being through preventive care and managing diseases. Beyond celebration, the day also encourages reflection on the challenges faced by doctors, promoting solidarity among healthcare professionals and advocacy for better working conditions, he added.
Jamir further urged doctors to support each other, strive for excellence, push the boundaries of medical knowledge, mentor future healers, and reaffirm their commitment to the noble values of their profession.
During the program, Dr Sentiyenla, SMO of CHC Mangkolemba, felicitated nine senior doctors based in Mokokchung Town. The honored doctors included Dr S Tiameren Ao, Dr Imtimeren Jamir, Dr K Yangerlemla Ao, Dr Cillarina A Sangma, Dr Imsulemba Jamir, Dr M Imyangluba Ao, Dr S S Akaba Longchar, Dr P Medemmayang, and Dr Chubatemsu Jamir.
