The Office of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Mokokchung, has issued a public alert following reports that unidentified scammers posing as officials from the Health & Family Welfare and Social Welfare departments have allegedly duped residents and siphoned off money from their bank accounts.
According to the department, miscreants have been telephonically contacting members of the public under the pretext of offering assistance under various government schemes. During these calls, victims were reportedly asked to share personal information, bank account details and One-Time Passwords (OTPs), leading to the theft of personal savings.
Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr. Takosunep Ao stated that the Department of Health & Family Welfare does not provide such telephonic services or request sensitive financial information from beneficiaries.
The department has strongly urged citizens not to entertain suspicious phone calls seeking personal or banking details.
