Health services at Dr Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital (IMDH), Mokokchung has been disrupted as in-service medical doctors resumed their indefinite strike from Friday demanding enhancement of their retirement age by two years.
The agitation is spearheaded by Nagaland In-Service Doctors’ Association (NIDA) against the “Non-compliance by the State Government to NIDA’s demand of a superannuation age of 62 without any criteria.”
The agitation has affected the Outpatient Department (OPD) in the hospital, officials have confirmed.
According to Medical Superintendent (MS) of IMDH, Dr Marina Yaden, the OPD in the hospital will remain closed indefinitely. But the emergency department will remain operational and the already admitted patients will be treated, Yaden said.
The MS confirmed that patients had turned up in the hospital on Friday but the OPD remained closed.
Yaden said that the strike will continue until there is a response from the state government.
It may be noted that NIDA had issued the 48-hour ultimatum to the State government on October 25 to respond positively to its demand for ’62 years of service for all doctors’ which expired on Thursday.
