The Nagaland Health department has asked municipal authorities to cancel the trade license of those optical shops run by unqualified persons.
The department in a notification issued on April 28, also requested municipal authorities to not issue trade license to anybody without valid registration certificate of ophthalmologists with NMC registration and Nagaland Optometric Association.
The department observed that there were many optical shops operating in the state without qualified eye care professional.
It said that those optical shops were dispensing power glasses without the help of eye care professionals such as ophthalmologists, optometrists and ophthalmic assistants, adding that such act is illegal as wrong prescription of power glasses could permanently endanger the eye sight.
The department also observed that most of those shops were operating with mere trade license issued by municipal authorities.
