In an effort to resolve the long-drawn Indo-Naga political issue, a high-level political meeting was convened on 9 May 2024 chaired by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio. During this meeting, a decision was reached to constitute a Political Affairs Committee (PAC).
The PAC will be made up of the Council of Ministers and the Legislature Leaders of all political parties in the 14th House of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly to find an “inclusive solution” to the Indo-Naga political issue as a facilitator.
This move, as highlighted in a notification issued by Minister of Power, KG Kenye, “is being once again with a renewed vigor in furtherance to the spirit of the All-Party Opposition-less Government in pursuit of a broad consensus for an early and amicable settlement.”
To operationalize this initiative, all Legislature Party Leaders have been instructed to initiate the formation of “Political Consultative Committees (PCCs)” in consultation with their respective Party organizations. These committees will exclusively address matters pertinent to the Indo-Naga political issue.
The composition of the PCCs will be determined based on the numerical strength of legislators in the 14th NLA, categorized as follows:
For parties with 10 or more MLAs: A 7-member committee.
For parties with 5 or more MLAs: A 5-member committee.
For parties with 1 or more MLAs: A 3-member committee.
Independent MLAs will have a Convenor and Co-Convenor.
